A nice mix of baseball and football quack this morning. Enjoy:
- So far, four players off of last year's baseball roster with eligibility remaining and six incoming recruits have signed with a professional club. One recruit who now looks like likely to end up at Oregon is left-handed pitcher Matt Krook who was selected 35th overall by the Phillies and was close to signing before Philadelphia reportedly backed away after a physical revealed some arm issues.
- One of those former Ducks is Jimmie Sherfy who was drafted in the 10th round by the Arizona Diamondbacks. After signing with Arizona, Sherfy joined the Hillsboro Hops (their short season A affiliate) on Friday, though he will be unavailable to pitch for another week.
- Dale Newton of the Duck Stops Here has a blog post entry on Josh Huff that discusses both his apparent readiness for a breakout season and his potential to play at the next level.
- Kevin Gemmell tabs UCLA's visit to Oregon as his week 9 destination in the Pac-12 blog's ultimate road trip series, noting that this game could be be a preview of the conference championship game. Gemmell also posts the conference players that made the pre-season watch lists for both the Maxwell and Bednarik awards, with three Ducks listed.
Go Ducks!
