Quack Fix: Former top-50 national recruit Brandon Austin transfers to Ducks

Scott Olmos-USA TODAY Sports

  • Dana Altman is some sort of transfer wizard. CBS reported on Monday that former Providence recruit Brandon Austin is transferring to Oregon. Austin, a 6-foot-6 small forward, was ranked as one of the top prospects in the Class of 2013. Austin was suspended by the Friars before the season and will be eligible next December, joining a Ducks squad that already has eight transfers on its roster.
  • It's been less than 36 hours since Florida State lifted the last crystal ball ever (let that one sink in for a moment), and of course, the 2014 rankings are flowing in already. ESPN revealed their "way too early" top 25 rankings. The Ducks come in at No. 3 behind Florida State (No. 1) and Alabama (No. 2). Oregon will face Michigan State (No. 6) at Autzen Stadium on September 13.
  • Andrew Greif takes a look at where the Ducks fall in these early 2014 predictions. Many believe that with the return of key players such as Marcus Mariota and Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, the Ducks should once again be contenders in the national championship race next season.
  • Oregon will have their hands full on Thursday night when they face the California Golden Bears at Matthew Knight Arena. The Ducks have dropped 12 straight to Cal, with their last win coming in Berkeley back in 2008.
  • For the first time ever, the Pac-12 finished with six teams ranked in the AP Poll. Oregon led the way with the highest ranking at No 9 after a dominant victory over Texas in the Alamo Bowl.
