The Week 7 QuackPoll is Having an Identity Crisis

After a bonkers week of college football, the QuackPoll looks completely different.

John Reed-USA TODAY Sports

So last week in college football was three days of abject nonsense, starting with Oregon crapping the bed against Arizona, and ending with quite possibly the most astonishing Couging of all time. I knew the QuackPoll was going to be all over the place, but I didn't know how much.

Couple of things to point out here. First, that's a very firm top 4, surprising considering all the chaos. I would've thought there'd be less agreement at the top, but as it turns out we've got SEC fever. Teams 5-8 are the second-tier undefeated teams, and then the one-loss giants start. Second, notice that every single team moved at least one spot, which I have to think is a rarity. Third, check out Michigan State. The Spartans finally get a win over a team of substance - Nebraska - and what happens? They drop two spots. This is 100% Oregon's fault.

Oregon's loss did two things to our voters as far as Michigan State is concerned. First, the loss made us be pretty harsh on the Ducks, dropping them nine spots. However, only Sean Larson was man enough to buck the notion that head-to-head results matter and rank Michigan State ahead of Oregon. So, as Oregon dropped, so did Michigan State. In fact, 7 out of 9 voters ranked Michigan State directly below Oregon in their ballots. Sorry Sparty.

I just want to point out that Cal's only loss is on a Hail Mary by the QuackPoll #5 team. You heard it here first, they're beating Washington this Saturday.

I'm not handing out awards this week because college football itself was too drunk last weekend, and I can't in good conscience award that kind of irresponsible behavior.
