In a nutshell:
Oregon's Matt Krook and Hawaii's Sam Squier spin a pitching duel for seven innings, leaving the score tied at 2-2. Aaron Payne scored on a Hawaii error in the 8th to give Oregon a 3-2 lead, but the Rainbows roughed up Garrett Cleavinger in the 8th to push a 5-3 lead. The Ducks wouldn't be denied, tieing it up in the 9th inning, before getting the game-winner in the 10th on Hawaii's fifth error of the game.
Performance of the Game:
Freshman pitcher Matt Krook. Making his first collegiate start, the former Marlins' first round pick tossed seven innings of five-hit baseball, allowing only two unearned runs. Krook struck out eight and walked only two. Of the 21 outs he recorded, eleven were by groundout and eight were by strikeout.
Offensive standouts:
The Ducks scored their six runs on only five hits, but five walks, two HBPs, and five Hawaii errors were able to be on base considerably more. Aaron Payne and Tyler Baumgartner reached base three times each, while Mitchell Tolman recorded a triple.
Miscellaneous notes:
Oregon improves to 3-0 for the second consecutive season, while nabbing their 10th straight victory against Hawaii. The Ducks were 3-6 on stolen bases for the game, including Scott Heineman getting thrown out at second to end the top of the ninth. The Ducks had only one sacrifice hit. Jake Reed pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless releif for the win.
