Last week brought news that Jake Rodrigues, apparent loser of the backup quarterback battle to Jeff Lockie, is transferring away from Oregon. According to Justin Hopkins of DuckTerritory, another QB is joining him as Damion Hobbs will also not return to Eugene this fall ($). Hobbs, a redshirt freshman, was a three-star recruit out of Cedar Hill, Texas, and, assuming he sits out a year, will have three years of eligibility at his new school.
Oregon's quarterback depth certainly takes a hit with the losses of Rodrigues and Hobbs, but Oregon will still have four quarterbacks on the roster next fall in Marcus Mariota, Lockie, freshman Morgan Mahalak, and highly touted walk-on Taylor Alie. So long as we don't see 2007 levels of quarterback injury mayhem, it should be plenty of depth to get through a season, though it could force Oregon to look at more quarterbacks in the next recruiting class.
As for Hobbs, we certainly wish him the best wherever he ends up.
