Oregon Ducks Football Recruiting: 4* QB Blake Barnett recruiting profile

After what is likely to be Marcus Mariota's last season, the Ducks are going to need to try to replace him at QB.

Following his unofficial visit to Eugene on Tuesday, Blake Barnett de-committed from Notre Dame and reopened his recruitment.  Barnett is a 4* QB out of Corona, CA and is receiving a lot of attention from Oregon right now. Looking at his film, it appears he may be able to compete from the get go for the back-up position behind next season's likely starter Morgan Mahalak, as Marcus Mariota is not expected to return.

Rated the #3 QB in this year's recruiting class, Barnett would be a major get for the Ducks. Scott Frost has been heading up the recruitment and it appears he has done enough to get Barnett out of South Bend.  Regardless of how you feel about the Irish, getting a QB to de-commit and come to your school is a big deal.

Barnett is big and strong, going at 6'4" and 193 pounds. He has good arm strength, accuracy and escapeability. Where Barnett really excels is throwing on the run. Barnett can take off and run with the ball but he keeps his eyes up field and often takes advantage of the defensive backfield cheating up.

As mentioned, not only is Blake talented with the pass, he has tremendous ability running the read option and running in open space. He has solid field vision and gets through the second level into the defensive backfield, often time breaking off long scoring runs.

Where he can use some work is on his release which appears to be a bit slow at times. It seems he has the ability to snap off an inside slant but when making a deep throw, his motion is a bit slower.
