Our poor friends from East Lansing came to Eugene once again to suffer a loss at the hands of the Ducks. In a somewhat tame environment at Matthew Knight friday night, the Ducks managed to weather a Spartan attack that took the first set to rally and take the final three.
The Ducks had a number of players that stepped up. In particular, Martenne Bettendorf led the team in kills with 16. Liz Brenner had 12 kills while freshmen Frankie Shebby had 13. Maggie Scott managed to quietly have herself a stellar performance with 30 assists.
For the Spartans; they have now dropped their last three games and fall to 4-3 with this loss. Taylor Galloway led the team in kills with 9. Halle Peterson led Michigan State in assists but unfortunately was carted off in a wheelchair with an injury late in the game.
It was a great team effort for the Ducks as they completely dominated from the 2nd set on. Oregon will take on the Michigan Wolverines tomorrow at Matthew Knight Arena at 7:30.
The Fan of the Night: This goes out to the guy in the "We Want Bama" shirt. Just when I thought the majority of owners burnt them, this guy comes out of the woodwork sporting it with pride. Last year these things sparked a great deal of controversy and then were seen as a symbol of embarrassment after the Stanford game. It's a new year though, and I still want Bama.
Congrats to the Oregon volleyball team for crushing more Spartan ambitions and best of luck tomorrow against the Maize and Blue tomorrow. Go Ducks.
