Rose Bowl Oregon vs. Florida State final: Ducks romp Seminoles, earn national championship berth

Oregon set Rose Bowl records galore in obliterating defending champion Florida State.

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

This was the greatest Rose Bowl ever.

Oregon turned a five-point halftime lead into an absolute boatrace, capitalizing on five Florida State turnovers to run all over the Seminoles, 59-20. Oregon outscored Florida State in the second half 41-7. Both the 59 points for the game and the 41 for a half are Rose Bowl records.

Marcus Mariota was 26/36 for 338 yards and two touchdowns. Thomas Tyner ran for 124 yards and two scores. The Oregon defense forced the five turnovers in the second half. Oregon even had a first-half goal line stand.

It was as dominant a performance as Oregon has ever had in a bowl game, and it ends Florida State's run of 29 consecutive wins. With last year's national champion out of the way, the Ducks secure their berth to the National Championship game, where they will play the winner of the Alabama-Ohio State Sugar Bowl matchup, which will begin momentarily.

The national championship game will take place on January 12 in Arlington, Texas.
