Baseball Series Recap: Ducks Sweep New Mexico State

Oregon moves to 7-1 on the season with the series sweep of the Aggies.

The first home series of the year for Oregon baseball was a success, with a four game series sweep of the New Mexico State Aggies to move to 7-1 on the season. Here is your series rundown:

Game 1 (Thursday): Oregon 3, New Mexico State 1

Cole Irvin, still on a pitch limit in his comeback from Tommy John, threw three innings of one-run ball. But the pitching star was reliever Conner Haber, who threw the last six innings of no-hit relief, striking out eight in the process. Shaun Chase hit a home run in the eighth inning.

Game 2 (Friday): Oregon 11, New Mexico State 3

The game was tied 3-3 in the sixth before the Ducks blew it open. A steal of home in the seventh was followed by a six run eighth. Shaun Chase hit yet another home run. But the story was the home debut of freshman David Peterson, who struck out seven in five and a third. Catcher Josh Graham then came on in relief, touching 95 while striking out three in 2 and 2/3 innings.

Game 3 (Saturday): Oregon 22, New Mexico State, 7

Oregon had 17 hits, and took advantage of six Aggie errors, setting the record for runs since the program was reinstated. Matt Eureste and Austin Grebeck each had four hits and five RBI, while Josh Graham and Phil Craig-St. Louis each had multi-hit games.

Game 4 (Sunday): Oregon 6, New Mexico State 3

Pitcher Jack Karracker was the star, pitching seven innings of one run ball while striking out eight. No Duck had more than one hit, but the team was able to coax nine walks, leading to the six runs.
