With the 17th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft the San Francisco 49ers selected Arik Armstead. The 49ers will be using Armstread to help stabilize the defensive line.
Armstead entered the University of Oregon as a recruit with a ton of potential and preferred playing on the defensive side of the ball. He played immediately and had a huge impact in many games, often drawing double teams from the opposing offensive line.
The San Francisco 49ers are looking to stabilize a defensive front seven that has been hurting from the departures this off-season, most notably Patrick Willis, who was the face of the franchise for years.
Moving forward Arik Armstead will need to work on exploding off the ball and play with his hips lower. He has a very high floor given his extreme athleticism. I don't see him being a bad pick in the long term. He has the potential to be a real star and given that he's only focused exclusively on football for one year he should develop well when it becomes a full-time job.
