By this point, Marcus Mariota has won just about every award you can give to a football player. On Wednesday night, Mariota added another trophy to his collection when he won the ESPY for Best Male College Athlete.
Mariota beat out Frank Kaminsky (Wisconsin basketball), Jack Eichel (Boston University hockey), Logan Steiber (Ohio State wrestling) and Dansby Swanson (Vanderbilt baseball) for the award.
During his Heisman season in 2014 at Oregon, Mariota threw for 4,454 yards and 42 touchdowns with only four interceptions. He also rushed for 770 yards and another 15 touchdowns on the ground.
Mariota opted not to attend the ESPYS in Los Angeles in order to spend more time in Hawaii before his professional obligations begin over in Tennessee. According to the Honolulu Star Advisor, Mariota recently added an endorsement deal with Island Insurance and is scheduled to film a commercial for the company before he leaves for the mainland. Mariota also has an endorsement deal with First Hawaiian Bank.
