Preseason Pac-12 Media Poll: Oregon picked to win the North, but not the conference

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

You know what Pac-12 Media Days mean? Preseason Pac-12 media polls! There is no value to this poll, or the preseason coaches poll, or any preseason poll for that matter, but it's still fun to speculate. So we present to you, the 2015 Pac-12 preseason media poll!

Yes, you read that right. The big, bad USC Trojans are the favorite to take down the Oregon Ducks in the 2015 Pac-12 Championship Game this year. But what happened the last time the Trojans had a bunch of preseason hype surrounding them? In 2012, USC was the preseason No. 1 team in the nation, only to finish the year 7-6 after a loss in the Sun Bowl to Georgia Tech. That same season, Oregon went on to win their second straight BCS game, defeating Kansas State in the Fiesta Bowl.

USC received 21 of 45 first place votes to win the conference championship game while the Ducks received 17 votes. In their respective divisions, Oregon earned 37 first place votes while the Trojans had 32 first place votes. Stanford (8), Arizona State (7) and UCLA (6) also earned first place votes in their divisions. Arizona State received three votes to win the conference title game while UCLA earned two votes to win. In the North, Stanford earned one vote to win the title game.

Since the conference expanded to 12 teams prior to the 2011 season, Oregon and Stanford are the only two schools to win the conference title game. The Ducks won the title in 2011 and 2014 while Stanford won back-to-back title games in 2012 and 2013.

USC and Oregon will face each other on November 21 at Autzen Stadium.
