Slinging Quack: Gameday Grade

Sean and Rusty talk about the bye week, what they won’t talk about, and the upcoming game against Cal.

Sean and I couldn’t find a time last week to pod so we took the bye also. The bye almost made us forget that the last game even happened.

We start off talking about the loss to Washington. I go through my pre-season predictions on conference standings and also have the hot take that I think Washington will make the playoff.

There are certain assumptions that we make when discussing certain topics, which we outline in the first ten minutes, just to curb some of the tangents and smaller details that can turn a ten minute conversation into a two hour dialogue.

Neither of us think that Chip Kelly is coming back to college soon. I don’t think he will be fired by the 49ers. The 49ers and Browns are the two least talented teams in the NFL and I sincerely doubt that Chip Kelly, out of the options that he had, would have picked a place where he had essentially a one-year trial run.

There are positives to discuss, like the relatively solid start by Justin Herbert, Tony Brooks-James emergence, and some of the younger players who are becoming vocal leaders on the field.

Lastly, we talk about the upcoming game against Cal. Cal has a worse defense against the run than we do so I am really looking forward to see our offensive line and Royce Freeman get down to business.

And we are less than a month away from basketball season.
