Oregon football did what it couldn't last year, as four-star outside linebacker La'Mar Winston, the state's top recruit, made his verbal commitment official on Wednesday during National Signing Day. He made his verbal commitment in July on Twitter.

According to Scout's Greg Biggins:

Winston had a strong spring and summer and shows tremendous upside. He plays both wide receiver and linebacker but we love him on defense and feel he has the talent to play sooner than later for the Ducks.

Winston put on a good 20 pounds since his junior season while maintaining his speed and athleticism. He has a great frame and will continue to fill out as he adds strength but it's his abilty to run and hit that really sets him a part.

Few 'backers have the ability to cover and play in space like Winston. He also brings a physical presence to the table, plays with a nice edge to him and always competes at a high level.

Winston ranks No. 19 of all outside linebackers in his draft class and the No. 258 recruit nationally, according to 247Sports.

He chose Oregon over Stanford and UCLA, which round out what were his final three choices. He also held offers from Arizona, California, Michigan, USC and Washington among others.
