Chris Boucher gets another year after winning NCAA appeal

Huge news for the Oregon Ducks.

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Just as you thought the Oregon Ducks couldn't get any better news than having a #1 seed, some breaking news on Wednesday afternoon changed that. Oregon big man Chris Boucher has been approved by the NCAA for an extra year of eligibility. After spending the year fighting the appeal battle with the NCAA this is a huge victory.

The impact of Boucher returning next year is enormous. After freshman forward Trevor Manuel left the team earlier this season the Ducks were in danger of having Jordan Bell being the only key big man returning. Boucher has a chance to come back next season as an all-conference candidate as he looks to lead the Ducks with seniors Elgin Cook and Dwayne Benjamin departing.

Chris Boucher had an excellent first year in Eugene as he averaged 12.1 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game. The versatile big man will be a key in the big dance as he gives the Ducks many different ways to matchup with teams while causing nightmare problems of his own with the ability to step out and knock down the three.
