Spring football updates half-way through

With the spring football game set for April 30th, we slowly creep towards the culmination of spring practice inside Autzen Stadium.

The Ducks put on their first spring scrimmage of the year last Friday, and from the sounds of it the defense won the battle.

Devon Allen backs up that feeling with his thoughts from the first spring scrimmage, claiming that there "were a lot of interceptions and sacks". Allen of course is preoccupied with spring football as he is too busy busting records in track.

Travis Jonsen continues to push Dakota Prukop for the quarterback position. Obviously a safe bet to see the two signal callers on opposite sidelines April 30th, setting us up for a battle similar to 2010 spring game where Nate Costa and Darron Thomas went at it, or of course the 2012 spring game with Bryan Bennett and Marcus Mariota.

The Ducks were back on the practice field today with the focus on improving the poor offensive line play from last week's scrimmage.

With the talk about Charles Nelson being back on offense for the Ducks, defensive backs coach John Neal talked about the depth of the safety unit and how he's excited to see Nelson back on offense.

Coach Mark Helfrich talked after Monday's practice to the media about how he feels his team has progressed at the half way point of spring ball.

Oregon will once again be on the practice field on Wednesday morning.
