We all know Dana Altman is a recruiting wizard when it comes to transfers and that could come in handy here soon. On Thursday, the Ducks hosted Malik Newman, who was a five-star recruit in the class of 2015.
This past year with Mississippi State, Newman averaged 11.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game in 21 starts for the Bulldogs and appeared in all 29 of Mississippi State’s games.
Out of high school, Newman was a McDonald’s All-American and was ranked as the No. 1 shooting guard in the country by ESPN. He led Callaway High School to four state championships and an overall record of 114-16.
Newman declared for this year’s NBA Draft, but did not sign an agent and ultimately withdrew. Now, we’ll see if he looks to find a new home after having a disappointing first season at Mississippi State. Newman has also made visits to Miami, Western Kentucky and N.C. State.
If Newman transfers to Oregon, he wouldn't suit up for the Ducks until the 2017-18 season per transfer rules.
