Royce Freeman is a very good football player.
On that we can all agree, but can the Oregon Ducks standout take home the big prize this year — the Heisman Trophy?
Obviously we won’t know for a while, but so far so good.
Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports has released his latest list of the Top 5 Heisman candidates, placing Freeman at a solid No. 3:
He's been his usual superb self and is off to a nice start with almost 300 yards on a 9.2-yard average to go with four rushing TDs. He's averaging over 14.7 yards a carry in the second half of games.
The full list at this point is Arizona State running back Kalen Ballage at No. 5, Georgia RB Nick Chubb at four, Freeman, then Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson at No. 2 and Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey at the top spot.
Following a lackluster first two weeks Clemson quarterback DeShaun Watson is out of the top five for the moment.
Oregon’s first two opponents haven’t put up much resistance, but Freeman can make a big mark on the race this week as the Ducks take on Nebraska.
