Oregon Ducks football postgame interviews for Saturday, September 24 game against the Colorado Buffaloes. If you missed anything from the players or coaches following the Ducks 41-38 loss, fear not, that’s why we are here.
HEAD COACH MARK HELFRICH
THE EMOTION FROM FINAL DRIVE:
“I’ve never been in a train wreck, but I’m pretty sure that is what it would feel like. We said that earlier, we’re trying to make a safe play and just get the ball out to the corner. Give it a shot, worst case scenario…The worst case scenario obviously happened but in that situation, trying to take as little time off the clock and still have some run-pass options with timeouts going forward.”
SIMIALRITY TO NEBRAKSA GAME:
“The wrong team winning at end by three points. It’s going to be another tough pill to swallow as far as the film, but as long as everybody sticks together and owns what they need to do. Owns, starting with me, we’ll come out the other side.”

FINAL PLAY OF THE GAME:
“With two timeouts, just trying to get a play off quickly and use all four downs, obviously including a possible kick. In that situation obviously, we’re trying to give a playmaker a chance. Hopefully it’s a safe ball and that turned out differently.”
ON THE BOBO ONE-HANDED TD CATCH:
“Somebody is going to have to explain that to me. The ball spun in his hand. That is always an incomplete pass. It was an unbelievable job by him of corralling the ball. There are certainly a few things that will get addressed next week at practice.”
QUARTERBACK DAKOTA PRUKOP
ON THE FINAL PLAY:
“That is something that me and Darren (Carrington) work on all the time, goal line fade. When they called the play, I said, ‘we’re going to get a touchdown here.’ I obviously got to see it on film. I didn’t put enough juice on it. I should’ve put it a lot higher for an easy jump ball, that’s what he likes. Just got to learn from it.”
THE REALITY OF LOSS:
“I haven’t been through something like this before. You know, it sucks. But, I just got to eat it and learn from it. Can’t let it happen again. Move on.”
RUNNING BACK TONY BROOKS-JAMES
ON STARTING THE GAME:
“I trusted myself and I trust the coaching staff to put me in position to make plays. Now, it’s just time for me execute and go out there and do what I do.”
THE PLAY-CALLING:
“A lot of things, but at the end of the day, the coaches and I trust the call. So, just got to roll with the punches.”

ON HOW TO HANDLE THE LOSS:
“Mentally, we just got to bounce back and flush it, as coach likes to say. Flush it and move on because the longer you dwell on it, the worse off you’re going to be. Just flush it and get ready for WSU.”
DEFENSIVE BACK BRENDEN SCHOOLER
FRUSTRATION LEVEL:
“Disappointed for sure, that’s no doubt. We’re just frustrated that we’re putting in this much work during practice, busting our butts every day and we can’t come out with the win on Saturday. So, everyone is pretty mad.”
ON THE DEFENSIVE OUTPUT SATURDAY VS COLORADO:
“Just not making tackles. We’re giving them free plays pretty much. We got to make them earn it.”
ON COLORADO QB STEVEN MONTEZ:
“He’s a big-bodied quarterback. He didn’t want to go down easy, so we had to respect the fact that he could run. But, he was a pretty good thrower, so we had to respect that as well.”
THE FINAL POSSESSION:
“When we’re out there, we get two interceptions and get the ball back to the offense. Offense is going down and scoring. I thought we were going to have that one in the bag at the end, but it didn’t come out in our favor.”
DEFENSIVE BACK ARRION SPRINGS
ON OVERALL EFFORT BY DEFENSE:
“We just couldn’t stop them, we couldn’t stop anything out there. These ones definitely hurt the most.”
