TUCSON, Arizona— This is gonna be short.
The Ducks got their hats, their jerseys, and their jock-straps handed to them Saturday afternoon, as Arizona completely thrashed the Ducks 18-4 at Hi Corbett Field. Seven Oregon pitchers gave up twenty-three hits to Arizona. Right handed sophomore starter Isaiah Carranza (2-1) gave up seven runs on nine hits in an inning and two-thirds. None of the six relievers that were forced to enter this hornets’ nest fared much better.
The Oregon offense was led by junior catcher Tim Susnara who went 2-4 and clouted his team-leading fourth home run, a two-run shot in the seventh.
Rio Gomez (4-3) picked up the win for the Wildcats, giving up four runs on nine hits while striking out three and walking one in six-and-two-thirds innings.
DH Alfonso Rivera went 5-5 for Arizona (26-9, 9-6), with a double, a walk, two RBI, and four runs scored. First baseman J.J. Matijevic, currently leading the PAC-12 with a .404 batting average, did nothing to hurt that figure with a 4-5 night of his own, with a double, two RBI, and three runs scored. Seven Wildcat players had multi-hit games on the night.
Oregon (23-10, 6-6) has three days to lick it’s wounds, as Wednesday they travel back to Portland for game three of their season series with the Pilots of the University of Portland. First pitch from Joe Etzel Field is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
