CORVALLIS, Oregon— The Oregon offense was silenced by the buzzsaw that is the Oregon State pitching staff, as the Ducks dropped the first Civil War game of the 2017 season, losing 4-1 Tuesday at Goss Stadium.
Beavers’ starter Jordan Britton (1-0) held Oregon (25-15) to just one run on two hits in his five-and-two-thirds innings of work, striking out two and walking one in the process. Brandon Eisert was brilliant in relief for OSU (35-4), pitching hitless ball through a scoreless three-and-a-third innings, striking out six Ducks in earning his second save of the season.
On the opposite side of the ledger, a sextet of Ducks pitchers failed to shutdown the Beavers, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out six and walking four. Freshman right hander Ryne Nelson (0-1), making his first start of the season, took the loss.
The Ducks were able to keep OSU’s All-American candidate Nick Madrigal in check, holding the talented second baseman hitless for the game, with an RBI sacrifice fly and a strikeout.
Freshman second baseman Morgan McCullough plated the Ducks’ only run, scoring from third base on a wild pitch in the sixth.
