LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Memphis second round draft pick Dillon Brooks exploded for a team-high 24 points on Tuesday from the MGM Resorts NBA Summer League. The former Oregon star shot 82 percent from the field in his breakout performance.
The Grizzlies (3-0) edged out the Utah Jazz 84-81 in an overtime contest from the Thomas & Mack Center. Brooks was incredible from the start of the game. He led his team the entire way. Utah moves their summer record to a dreadful 0-3.
Brooks finished his incredible day 9-for-11 from the field, including 4-for-5 from downtown. He was also 2-for-2 from the charity stripe. The Canadian added six rebounds (two offensive), two steals and a blocked shot.
The former Duck had eight points with two minutes left in the first half. After burying back-to-back 3-pointers, Brooks entered the locker room with a team-high 14 points.
Overall, it was his best performance by far this summer. This is what occurs when you let Brooks play for 25 minutes. Good things happen.
Donovan Mitchell was the big scorer of the day with a game-high 37 points for the Jazz. The first round pick from Louisville was 10-for-24 from the floor in the losing effort.
Next up are the Oregon Warriors from Cox Pavilion at 5:30 p.m. PT. They will oppose the Minnesota Timberwolves in their final tune-up before tournament play begins on Wednesday. Currently, FIVE former Ducks are on the world champions summer roster.
