LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The Memphis Grizzlies and Dillon Brooks were eliminated by the Portland Trail Blazers 87-82 on Sunday in the NBA Summer League semifinals. Brooks finished with a team-high 16 points, four rebounds, four assists and a blocked shot.
Unfortunately, the (5-1) Grizzlies ran out of steam just one game from the title on Monday night. Portland fought back from a 19-point deficit in the first half to overtake Memphis and they never looked back.
The Canadian concluded 7-of-12 from the field, including 0-for-3 from downtown. Brooks was 2-for-4 from the charity stripe.
At one point in the fourth quarter, Brooks smelled blood and began to attack. He drilled three straight jumpers to cut the Memphis deficit in half, 84-78. As most Duck fans know, he thrives when the clock begins to dwindle.
It has been difficult for Brooks adjusting to his new role. Starting the game on the bench was anticipated, but playing without the ball while on the floor is something new. It will take some time, but he will learn a new way to flourish.
This officially concludes the NBA summer for Oregon basketball. Now, some rest and training is on the schedule until the start of next season. We will be there every step of the way as their professional career’s evolve. Thank you for reading!
