Football season is officially here with the start of fall camp, and we’ve got another new writer joining our team this season. Let’s get to know the newest member of our squad, Andrew Bet.
Welcome to the ATQ family! Give us a little background on who you are, and why you love the Ducks.
My name is Andrew Bet, and I am excited to be part of the Addicted to Quack community. I graduated from the University of Oregon in 2012 with a history degree and 2016 with a degree in journalism. Since stepping on campus for the first time in 2007 for a tour, I fell in love as the school vibe made me feel at home. I grew up in the Bay Area as a Stanford fan, attending numerous Stanford Football games with my grandfather, a Stanford Alumni.
Before coming to Oregon, I heard how loud and crazy Autzen Stadium can get with the passionate fans and student section. After attending my first Oregon Football game as a student in 2008 against UCLA, I could not wait to get back.
I love the Ducks for many reasons. The first has to be when Chip Kelly took over the program and the "Win The Day" philosophy he brought. He elevated the program as contenders for the national championship made Oregon Football must-see TV with the explosive offense he implemented.
As a journalist, to cover Oregon Athletics was a privilege in getting to interview players and coaches after the game. I have always enjoyed watching sports which made putting packages for DuckTV, doing radio shows and writing articles easy to produce. I have missed my time being in Eugene, and I am grateful to be part of Addicted to Quack and write on the Oregon Ducks.
Who is your favorite Oregon Duck of all-time, in any sport?
LaMichael James is my favorite Oregon Duck with how electric he was on the football field. I had the opportunity to meet him in 2016 and got an autograph football from him. The two of us crossed paths in 2012 at the campus Duck Store which led to a memorable quote after he signed my football. I will have to share the story another time.
What is the most memorable Oregon Ducks game to you as a fan?
The 2011 home game against USC stands out as a memorable game I attended. USC came away with the win though Oregon's fourth quarter rally would have been sweet if it came through. Throughout the game, Oregon was outmatched by USC and had no business. Students were disgruntled, and many were ready to leave after the first quarter. After "Shout" was played before the fourth quarter, the turnaround began for the Ducks. A late fumble recovery deep in Oregon territory ignited Autzen Stadium. Plenty of time was on the clock to score a touchdown to win the game. Instead, Chip went too conservative, and the game-tying field goal went wide. By far, a crazy game from the beginning which could have ended in the sweetest comeback by Oregon.
What will you be writing about here at ATQ?
As a new member of Addicted to Quack, I will be writing game previews for Oregon Football and other content about Oregon Football. I will also contribute articles on Oregon Basketball when the season gets near. Also, I hope to write on baseball and softball as I had enjoyed covering games when I was in Oregon.
Last, but certainly not least, Twizzlers or Red Vines, and Five Guys or In N Out? (It's a bit of an inside joke around the community)
I like Red Vines and In N Out (two double-doubles and fries are my go to).
