Happy summer, fellow Ducks fans. July is the slowest month of the year at ATQ as the last of the school’s sports have ended, but football hasn't quite revved up again yet. And so, it’s my time of the year to check in on our staff and see who wants to stay, who wants to move on, and who wants to join us.
So here is the closest thing we can get to a “job posting” calling for new writers to join our team.
As a staff writer for ATQ, you'll be expected to publish a minimum of 3 stories per week, but obviously you can write as much as you want. I like to give my writers the freedom to write what they want, when they want, as long as it pertains to Oregon athletics of course, and follows SB Nation’s Community Guidelines.
Below is a list of sports that will be happening during the first couple months of the fall season at Oregon. Obviously, football and basketball coverage is our bread and butter, but if you're passionate about any of the other “non-revenue” sports, we’re always looking to expand our coverage.
Beginning of Men’s/Women’s Basketball
Men’s/Women’s Cross Country
The position is on a volunteer basis, so you will never be “let go” for not writing enough, but just like anything, the more you put into this, the more you'll get out of it. In the past, some of our writers have gone onto paid, full-time positions with some major media outlets, including Sports Illustrated and ESPN. One of our writers joined the staff, worked his butt off, and is now fully credentialed by the athletic department. Work hard, and it’s a blast here.
If you're interested in joining the team, please email me (my email is in my profile if you click on my name at the top of the article) with why you'd like to join ATQ, what you'd be interested in writing about, and 2-3 published writing samples. If this would be your first gig, draft up a story on one of the sports listed above.
