Yesterday was the early signing period for high school basketball players to commit to their future college. The Oregon basketball program landed two commits, Chandler Lawson (2019 PF) and Isaac Johnson (2019 PF).
Chandler Lawson is a 4-star recruit from Tennessee and is ranked #58 in the ESPN100. The 6’8 forward also had offers from Kansas, Kentucky, Florida and many more. He is a skilled combo forward that can play both the 3 and 4. His brothers, Dedric and KJ, both play at Kansas after transferring from Memphis. It looks like Chandler wanted to create his own path on the West Coast.
Isaac Johnson is a 4-star recruit out of Utah and is ranked #53 in the ESPN100. The 6’10 forward chose Oregon over BYU, Utah, and Gonzaga. Johnson has a lot of upside, length, and a soft touch around the rim as well as from beyond the arc. Plus, this kid hasn’t fully grown into his body yet so who knows what his full potential could be down the road.
Another top player in the class of 2019 could also be on his way to Oregon. CJ Walker out of Florida has narrowed down his Top 3 to Oregon, LSU, and Miami. He is ranked #19 in the ESPN100 and will look to make his decision on November 21st which is the last day of the signing period.
Dana Altman has landed 6 high school players in the last two classes that were ranked in the ESPN100. He has really got this whole recruiting thing down.
