MATT MERCER
After three years of being an Oregon Duck, Pitcher Matt Mercer has been drafted on day two to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Mercer was ranked 105th in the draft and went in the fifth round as the 159th overall pick.
The Junior has a career ERA of 3.77, a win-loss record of 13-16, and is expected to earn $314.8K in Phoenix. He is tied for sixth most starts in Oregon history with 35, and is the 45th Duck selected in the draft since baseball’s return to the U of O in 2009.
After going undrafted out of high school due to an injury that made him miss his senior season, Mercer’s speedy pitch has experts believing he’ll be a successful relief pitcher with the possibility of developing into a larger role.
