Week 5 is in the books!
Chart is looking pretty good – aside from a few folks who wandered after the 1st week (and we haven’t even gotten to the halfway point, plenty of time to hop back on), we’ve gotten better overall participation than I expected. Nice work, give yourselves a hand.

Ducks were hitting the weights too last Friday, as documented by Coach Feld:

TBJ nails 315 on the power clean in the depths of the offseason, seems like a good sign:

We’re going to need some of that this autumn, Tony.
In other Oregon-themed stuff, I came across this old Sports Illustrated article about Prefontaine circa 1970. Bittersweet read in hindsight, but worth a look as a time capsule.

Building on the running theme here’s a good longform profile of the Tarahumara, an indigenous Mexican group in Chihuahua who were never really conquered or assimilated by Europeans and are considered arguably the finest distance runners in the world. They do it wearing traditional huaraches, basically rudimentary leather sandals. Apparently they drink a lot of corn beer the night before races - sometimes these races are canceled the next morning for this reason, other times they run 100+ miles over rough terrain.
