The #4 Oregon Ducks (21-1, 10-0) were hardly challenged by the Colorado Buffaloes (10-11, 0-10) as they raced towards their largest conference win in program history. Ruthy Hebard hit all of her shots and the Ducks hit triple digits for the fifth time this year.
On Super Bowl Sunday (more like Satou Boley Punday), the Ducks left no doubt who the better team was when the PAC-12’s bottom team came to Eugene, Oregon to face the conference’s - and possibly the NCAA’s - most dominant team.
Oregon started the game with a 16-0 lead and didn’t allow a basket from the Buffs until the 8:01 mark in the second quarter, at which point the score was 30 to 4. In the first half, Colorado was held to 14.3% from the floor while Oregon hit 66.7%.
Maite Cazorla and Ruthy Hebard had a combined 29 points in the first half. Hebard would finish the game a perfect 10-of-10 from the floor while also nabbing 12 rebounds and leading all scorers with 24 points.
The Ducks took advantage of the Buffs’ mistakes by scoring 30 points off of their 18 turnovers. Oregon’s wire-to-wire domination enabled Kelly Graves to utilize his entire active roster, and for most of the fourth quarter, all four bench players were on the court at the same time.
The midday crowd of six-thousand-plus grew especially loud when Morgan Yaeger scored a jumper followed by a triple to make the score 83-33. It was uplifting to say the least to see Yaeger, a player so often seen cheering on her teammates from the bench due to injury, being cheered on by Oregon’s starters.
