The Register Guard tells the story of Duck fifth year senior Venessa D’Arpino who qualified for her first individual event at the NCAA Championships by placing fifth at the NCAA West Regional Prelim meet. Vanessa has struggled with injuries throughout her career, but has earned national awards on relays prior to her first individual qualification.

Ryne Nelson was chosen in the second round of the MLB draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks. The selection makes Nelson the third highest pick of the MLB draft in the modern era of Oregon baseball.

Oregon sprinter Crayvon Gillespie is considered the favorite to win the NCAA title at 100 meters according to the long respected Track and Field News. In addition to the 100, Gillespie is entered in the 200 and the 4x100 relay.
