Two More Ducks on Mackey Award and Rimington Trophy Watch Lists

Two more Ducks are on watch lists for awards!

NCAA Football: San Jose State at Oregon Jaime Valdez-USA TODAY Sports

Oregon tight end Jacob Breeland has been placed on the John Mackey Award watch list

Breeland was the third leading receiver for the Ducks last season.

The John Mackey Award is given to the nation’s best tight end on annual basis. 2018 winner Iowa TE T.J. Hockensen was drafted in the first round in the most recent draft by the Detroit Lions.

Breeland joins Devin Asiasi (UCLA), Hunter Bryant (Washington), Josh Falo (USC), Cole Fotheringham (Utah), Cade Otton (Washington), Noah Togiai (Oregon State), and Bryce Wolma (Arizona) in representing the Pac-12 for the award.

It will likely take a herculean effort for Breeland to win the award as the competition is very good and features multiple draft prospects.

You can find the other nominees and more information about the award here.

Another Duck has found himself on an awards watch list. This time, starting center Jake Hanson was nominated for the Rimington Trophy.

The Rimington Trophy is given out to the country’s best center every year and is in honor of Dave Rimington, a standout college and NFL center.

Hanson is joined by Boss Tagaloa (UCLA), Brett Neilon (USC), Cohl Cabral (Arizona State), Drew Dalman (Stanford), Frederick Mauigoa (Washington State), Josh McCauley (Arizona), Michael Saffell (Cal), Nick Harris (Washington), and Tim Lynott, Jr (Colorado) in representing the Pac-12.

You can find the rest of the watchlist here.

Last year’s winner was North Carolina State’s Garrett Bradbury, who was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

While Hanson anchors arguably the most talented offensive line in college football, he would need to dominate the trenches in order to make it further on the list. There are multiple projected high round picks ahead of him.
