The Ducks start off at the 13th position in the first poll of the season after witnessing star QB Justin Herbert turn down the riches of the NFL for his senior campaign. The pieces are there for a deep run to the playoff with a promising stop unit and a dominant offensive line littered with All-Americans.
Oregon’s first opponent, Auburn, is ranked 16th in the same poll so College GameDay is getting a solid top 20 match to kick off week one.
You can find the rest of the poll here, courtesy of CBS Sports.
The top five are as follows: 1. Clemson 2. Alabama 3. Georgia 4. Oklahoma 5. Ohio State.
Three of the four playoff seeds from last season make up the top five to start. Defending national champion Clemson has its first ever top ranking in program history.
Five Pac-12 teams made the poll with Washington leading the pack at 12 with Oregon trailing just behind.
Recent national title winner UCF is also ranked in a tie with Wisconsin at 17.
The Big Ten has the most teams ranked with six while the Pac-12 follows close behind with the aformentioned five.
