Cristobal Predictions: Week Two

We suck against the spread!

We all know that ATQ readers are the most knowledgeable fans on the internet.

Now it’s time to prove it!

Each week we’ll put up a series of PAC-12 polls with the goal of predicting that week’s Paction. Last week, ATQ chose nine games correctly and two games wrong. We also were a miserable two of nine when it came to picking the spread.

THIS WEEK’S RESIDENT GENIUS IS:

CaDuck

“Auburn 28 Oregon 17. The offense bumblefucks around and puts the defense in a lot of tough spots. Everyone is really mad at Arroyo at the end of it, because our offense still doesn’t show up or execute at all in the first half of road games.

Not Arroyo’s fault that the team can’t even snap footballs in road games but people scapegoat him anyways. Herbert throws for 260 yards and 1 TD, as it’s clear Bouknight isn’t a miracle worker and will take some more time to get the most out of this group of receivers. It’s my pessimistic duty to remind everyone that this is a team that lost its only receiver and put up all of 7 points last time out.

That said, by the end of the year it is a fully operational death machine and most things are figured out, so akin to the 2009 season. Hopefully that means Rose Bowl!”

Sacramento State v Arizona State

SACRAMENTO STATE @ ARIZONA STATE

TIME/CHANNEL: Friday, 7:00 PM, PAC12

SEASON RECORD: SAC STATE (1-0) / ASU (1-0)

HISTORICAL RECORD: Who cares.

NOTES: This ain’t Washington State we’re talking about, the Hornets are an FCS school and Herm Edwards is too good a coach to let the Sun Devils screw this one up at home. That being said, they did just score 77 points against Southern Oregon. Even if this game isn’t competitive, this game should be fun to watch just to check out true freshman quarterback Jayden Daniels, who looked surprisingly comfortable last week in his first start.

NORTHERN ILLINOIS @ #13 UTAH

TIME/CHANNEL: Saturday, 10:00 AM, PAC12

SEASON RECORD: NIU (1-0) / UTAH (1-0)

HISTORICAL RECORD: Utah beat Northern Illinois last season in their first ever match-up.

NOTES: Last season, this was a U-G-L-Y win by the Utes. However, NIU is not the same team as last year, and if the preseason hype has any validity then #13 Utah should be able to do better than last year’s 17-6 victory.

#25 Nebraska @ Colorado

TIME/CHANNEL: Saturday, 12:30 PM, FOX

SEASON RECORD: NEB (1-0) / COL (1-0)

HISTORICAL RECORD: The Cornhuskers lead the series 49 to 19 against the Buffaloes, these teams have also tied twice.

NOTES: In Colorado’s second straight rivalry game Mel Tucker has a golden opportunity to kickoff his debut season with an upset. But Nebraska is looking to avenge last year’s loss to the Buffs which took place during a seven-game losing streak for the Cornhuskers. The defensive minded Tucker hopes to attack a struggling Nebraska offense.

SAN DIEGO STATE @ UCLA

TIME/CHANNEL: Saturday, 1:15 PM, PAC12

SEASON RECORD: SDSU (1-0) / UCLA (1-0)

HISTORICAL RECORD: The Aztecs are hoping to beat the Bruins for the first time in 22 attempts, though it’s worth mentioning that they were able to fight their way to a tie in 1924.

NOTES: San Diego State is not a good football team. They beat Weber State 6 to 0 last week. UCLA looked pretty bad themselves, but they’re not bad enough to lose to the Aztecs, right?

NEVADA @ #16 OREGON

TIME/CHANNEL: Saturday, 4:30 PM, PAC12

SEASON RECORD: NEV (1-0) / ORE (1-0)

HISTORICAL RECORD: The Wolf Pack drew first blood back in 1947 when they beat the Ducks 13-6 in Eugene. since then Oregon has built a six game win streak against Nevada.

NOTES: There’s no way Oregon loses to a freshman quarterback! Carson Strong lived up to his name with a badass performance against the Purdue Boilermakers. He helped his team score 10 points in the final minute and looked very confident for a redshirt-freshman. Will Oregon get its season back on track, or will they become another chapter in Wolf Pack lore?

USC v Stanford Photo by Thearon W. Henderson/Getty Images

#23 STANFORD @ USC

TIME/CHANNEL: Saturday, 7:30 PM, ESPN

SEASON RECORD: STAN (1-0) / USC (1-0)

HISTORICAL RECORD: So far, the Trojans have won 61 while the Cardinal have 33, thrice these teams have tied. Stanford won last year by a score of 17-3.

NOTES: Both teams are down a starting quarterback and are rebuilding different sides of the ball. This contest is always strange, and often the team you expect to lose wins big. Someone’s season is about take a serious hit. Be sure to tune in to this one, it may not be a fun game to watch but it’ll be an important one for the PAC-12 standings.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: OCT 07 Cal at Washington Photo by Jesse Beals/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

CALIFORNIA @ #14 wASHINGTON

TIME/CHANNEL: Saturday, 7:30 PM, FS1

SEASON RECORD: CAL (1-0) / wASH (1-0)

HISTORICAL RECORD: The dirty dawgs lead this one 54-40-4, though the Golden Bears were able to upset them 12-10 last year.

NOTES: The whole PAC-12 outside of Seattle laughed in pure delight last season as the Golden Bears upset the huskys without scoring an offensive touchdown. This year’s contest is on Montlake and Cal’s underwhelming performance against UC Davis doesn’t bode well for the repeat victory,

Oregon State v Hawaii Photo by Kent Nishimura/Getty Images

OREGON STATE @ HAWAII

TIME/CHANNEL: Saturday, 9:00 PM, FACEBOOK TV?

SEASON RECORD: OSU (0-1) / HAW (1-0)

HISTORICAL RECORD: The Beavers come into this one having won the last four and own the overall series 7 to 3.

NOTES: This is the ATQ pick of the week! When the Rainbow Warriors took on the Wildcats it amounted to pure PAC-12 after dark chaos. Oregon State doesn’t have much, but they do have a solid pair of playmakers with Isaiah Hodgins and Jermar Jefferson.

Aloha Stadium proved to be a crazy environment for the last PAC-12 foe, does Cole McDonald have another four touchdown, four interception game in him?
