1ST HALF: Payton Pritchard started the scoring with a three-pointer and the Ducks built a 9-7 lead early on the road in front of a crowd of 9,268 fans. However, the Huskies put together an 11-2 run as the hapless Ducks struggled to find any sort of offensive rhythm, much like in their game against Wazzu a couple days before. Oregon was held to 33.3% from the floor during the first half and things looked grim for the visiting team at the half, down 37 to 25.
2ND HALF: With 10:22 left in the second half, a pair of Isaiah Stewart free throws put the Huskies up 16 points, but some tenacious defense helped the Ducks rally back to force an unlikely overtime. Five different Ducks scored Oregon’s next thirteen points, and a Payton Pritchard three-pointer cut the lead to just five. A Chandler Lawson dunk capped off a 15-2 run for Oregon before washington’s Stewart scored four straight to give the home team a 54-47 lead.
Chandler Lawson made a layup with 2:48 left in regulation, then Pritchard hit a pair of free throws before draining a deep three to beat the shot clock and tie the game at 54 apiece. Lawson fouled Stewart, who hit two more shots from the charity stripe, but Juiston came up huge on the other end of the floor by making a layup that took the game into overtime.
OVERTIME: Oregon’s full-court press was very effective late in the game, holding the huskies to just five points, four of which came through free throws. Stewart started the scoring with a layup, then Lawson hit one of his two shots from the charity stripe to cut the lead in half. Nahziah Carter also went 1-of-2 with his free throws, and Lawson responded with a game-tying bucket.
Pritchard hit a jumper with 1:10 left in overtime, giving the Ducks their first lead since 9-7 in the first half. Stewart’s accurate free throw shooting once again tied the game, setting up for a heroic deep triple from Pritchard with three seconds left in the game, The home crowd was stunned silent as Pritchard circled the court celebrating, shouting “this is my city!”.
Something about this team...
