1st Half
The Ducks failed their first test of the PAC-12 season by losing to the Buffs on the road. Oregon was competitive early, building a 14-13 lead with 9:44 to go in the first half in front of a raucous crowd of 10,770, but Colorado responded by going on an 11-2 run and finishing the half with a 28-22 lead at the half. Colorado held the Oregon offense to 34.6% from the floor and the Ducks missed all seven of their first-half shots as the home team held the #4 team to their lowest halftime score of the season.
2nd Half
Altman’s squad trailed by as many as 15 points in the second half, but to the Ducks’ credit they were able to make a late rally before ultimately failing to complete the comeback. Payton Pritchard rode the bench late after committing his fourth foul which surprisingly resulted in some offensive success highlighted by a Chris Duarte triple that cut the lead to four with 8:38 left in the game. However, Colorado’s defense remained strong throughout the contest and hit seven of their final eight free throws in the final minutes to seal the win. The last couple of minutes weren’t aired on television due to some technical difficulties, but perhaps that was best.
The Ducks are now 0-9 at the CU Events Center and 0-1 in conference play. Payton Pritchard finished with a team-high 21 points on 8-of-18 shooting and Chris Duarte was the only other Duck to score in double digits. Oregon hit just three of their 18 shots from three-point land and Shakur Juiston recorded his first minutes since his injury against North Carolina in late November.
Oregon travels to Salt Lake City next to take on the Utah Utes while the Buffs will attempt to remain undefeated in conference play against the Beavers.
