Salt Lake City, Utah - The #2 Oregon Ducks (18-2, 8-1) boat-raced the Utah Utes (10-10, 3-6), winning 90 to 63. Sabally scored 23 points while Hebard and Ionescu each tallied a double-double.

1ST HALF: Utah scored the first five points of the game, but Oregon responded with a 15-2 run that gave them the lead for good. The run included a pair of triples from Satou Sabally and another from Erin Boley that tied the game at five. The Utes cut the lead to three, but the Ducks outscored them 16 to 4 to finish the opening quarter with a 15-point lead. Sabally and Ruthy Hebard scored a combined 21 points in the first, and a three-pointer from freshman Jaz Shelley closed out the quarter, giving the Ducks a 15-point advantage that the Utes never really threatened.
Oregon’s tenacious and talented defense held Utah to just 10 points in the second quarter, allowing them to build their lead by 11. At the 1:41 mark, Sabrina Ionescu hit her fist deep shot off the night, then Minyon Moore recorded two consecutive steals that resulted in four points. Oregon had double the score of Utah at halftime, 52 to 26, thanks to a stingy defense that fueled Oregon’s lethal offense.
2ND HALF: Even when many Duck starters were taken out, Oregon never let Utah within 20 points during the second half. The red-hot shooting of the first half, 70 percent, came down to a much cooler 40 percent, but the Duck D remained strong. Lydia Giomi, Lucy Cochrane and Morgan Yaeger saw a little bit of playing time late in the game when Utah’s fate was already decided.
Oregon’s starters performed at their usual stellar level: Sabally scored a game-high 23 points, Hebard recorded a double-double with 13 rebounds and 21 points, Ionescu had a ho-hum near-triple-double, Boley hit a couple of triples, and Moore recorded six steals.
Coach Kelly Graves needs to make sure his team isn’t looking past their next opponent, the Colorado Buffaloes (14-6, 3-6); the Ducks play at Colorado this Saturday at 1 PM, then UConn two days later in Storrs.
