THREE-PEAT!!! Oregon Beats Wazzu to Earn Regular Season Title

Ducks 88 - Cougars 57

NCAA Womens Basketball: Pac-12 Conference Tournament Oregon vs UCLA Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

EUGENE, OREGON - The #3 Oregon Ducks (27-2, 16-1) raced past the Washington State Cougars (11-18, 4-13) to earn back-to-back-to-back PAC-12 regular season titles.

Ruthy Hebard tallied 28 points and 14 rebounds to earn her 54th double-double in front of a sellout crowd. Arizona’s upset of Stanford gave Oregon sole possession of the title before the game even started, but the Ducks’ competitive spirit still put together an 88-to-57 performance to stay sharp a week before entering the PAC-12 Tournament as a 1-seed.

1ST HALF: The Ducks raced out to a 13-0 lead and never looked back. Ruthy Hebard hit back-to-back buckets to start the scoring, then Erin Boley drained the game’s first triple. Oregon’s big three each added a layup to the early run and the Duck starters appeared to be playing against an exhibition level opponent. Borislava Hristova and Jovan Subasic scored all 11 points for the Cougars in the first quarter while the Ducks had all five starters score within the first five minutes.

Oregon entered the second quarter with a 17-point lead and continued to wreak havoc on Washington State’s outmatched starters. Subasic and Hristova continued to do the lion’s share of scoring for the Cougs, but some help by Levy Shir and Chanelle Molina brought the score back to a 17-point game with 6:55 to go before the Iones-crew put together a 16-4 run that featured 11 points from Hebard, who finished with a game high 28 points.

Oregon entered the half with a 53-26 lead.

2ND HALF: The Ducks outscored the Cougars 24 to 16 in the third; 10 of those points came from junior Satou Sabally, who finished the night with 22 points in just 25 minutes. Sabally appeared to be in top form as she utilized her size and speed to dominate the court, but late in the frame Sabally injured her ankle on a non-contact injury. Matt Knight Arena fell silent for the first time all night as the future first round pick gingerly put her weight on the injured leg, but her jovial presence on the bench and during post-game events suggested that the situation may not be as dyer as it appeared, and coach Graves even told GoDucks.com that she could have re-entered the game if they needed her.

Oregon’s bench earned some valuable minutes in the fourth, and were able to maintain the team’s healthy lead; the Ducks entered the final quarter with a 32-point lead and finished the game with a 31-point lead.

Much of the post-game interviews and ceremonies had the atmosphere of a house party, however Ionescu also talked to the crowd about her relationship with Kobe and Gianna. The seniors have one last regular season home game before entering the PAC-12 Tournament as a 1-seed.
