Go Ducks!

CORVALLIS, OREGON - The Oregon Ducks (18-6, 7-4) lost to the Oregon State Beavers (14-9, 4-7) once again, by a score of 63 to 53.

The Ducks led by 10 in the second half, but a terrible night of shooting doomed the Ducks against their ancient rival.

1ST HALF: It was a back and forth affair for much of the first half as neither team was able to build a lead larger than five points. Tres Tinkle scored the game’s first points off a layup then Chris Duarte quickly responded with a bucket of his own. There were nine lead changes in the first 20 minutes, but three made triples from Oregon seemed to signify a turning of the tide as the Ducks turned a four-point deficit into a four-point lead heading into halftime.

2ND HALF: Oregon State’s Kylor Kelley cut the lead to two with a dunk early in the second half, but the Ducks scored eight unanswered points to build a 10-point lead with 17:21 left in the game. However, the Beavers outscored Altman’s squad 33 to 13 from then on to win their third consecutive Civil War.

Oregon State battled their way to a 42-42 tie at the 11:10 mark, then with under three minutes remaining Zach Reichle scored a dunk on the fastbreak to earn a 50 to 48 advantage. Oregon’s next possession ended with a costly turnover by Anthony Mathis that resulted in a pair of made Tinkle free throws. Payton Pritchard, Oregon’s proven late-game threat, scored a layup to cut the lead to two, but an offensive rebound from Kelley led to a Reichle corner three to make it a two possession game with 1:17 left.

The Ducks missed four straight shots from three-point land in the final minute, and four points from the Beaver charity stripe made Pritchard’s late three-pointer ultimately pointless. Pritchard surpassed E.J. Singler for most starts in school history with 133.

Oregon will need to put this loss behind them as the #24 Colorado Buffs are set to visit Matt Knight for a pivotal PAC-12 showdown.
