Around 9 AM PDT, the four star quarterback committed to the Ducks over Territorial Cup rivals Arizona and Arizona State via Twitter

The 6’4 200 signal caller is from Mesquite High School in Gilbert, Arizona.

247Sports has him rated as the eighth best pro style quarterback, third best in the state of Arizona, and the 142nd ranked prospect in the nation.

The site also lists new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Joe Moorhead as his primary recruiter so this is Moorhead’s handpicked selection. He’s the only quarterback committed to the Ducks right now.

He unofficially visited the Ducks on March 12, which is right before the buzzer went off when the NCAA barred recruiting until next month at least.

Here’s what 247’s Mountain Region Recruiting Analyst Blair Angulo had to say about Thompson:

“Bulky frame with thick upper body. Prototypical size and moves well at 200 pounds. Strong lower half. Sets balanced base and throws with complete control. Elite arm strength, but also has the finesse to fit throws between defensive levels. Smooth mechanics and effortless throwing motion. Could improve mobility, footwork and pocket awareness. Candidate to start early in college career and projects to be an NFL Draft Day 3 selection.”

Angulo also compares him to former Miami quarterback Brad Kaaya.

Thompson was timed at 4.96 seconds in the 40, 31.9” on the vertical jump, and 4.91 seconds in the shuttle drill at The Opening last year as a rising junior.

247 ranks the current Ducks 2021 class as the best in the Pac-12 and ninth nationally.
