EUGENE, OREGON - The No. 3 Oregon Ducks (28-2, 17-1) dismantled the washington Huskies (13-16, 5-13) by a score of 92 to 56.
This was the final regular season game for Ruthy Hebard, Sabrina Ionescu, Satou Sabally, and Minyon Moore. Duck fans celebrated the team long after the final buzzer.
1ST HALF: The Ducks raced out to a 13-0 lead against their last opponent, the Washington State Cougars, and against the Huskies things appeared to be on the same track as Oregon kicked off Senior Day by scoring seven unanswered points. But washington was able to rally and even take a 14-12 lead with 3:21 left in the opening quarter. Ruthy Hebard tied the game with a layup, and the Taylor Chavez hit a triple to reclaim the lead, however, the Huskies ended the quarter trailing 19 to 18.
The second quarter quickly turned into the blowout that Ducks fans expected as Oregon’s defense held washington to just six points and their offense put together a 22-2 run. After an injury scare against Washington State a few days before, it was great to see Satou Sabally perform at a high level, including a 13-point second quarter performance that helped bury the Huskies. Oregon went into the half with a seemingly insurmountable 46 to 24 lead.
2ND HALF: After a couple of scoreless minutes, Amber Melgoza hit a jumper then JaQuaya Miller made a layup to cut the lead to 18, but the game was never in question as Oregon’s big three finished with a combined 57 points and the entire second half devolved into live practice.
The most noteworthy parts of Sunday’s game took place after the final buzzer. Each of Oregon’s seniors were honored in front of a sellout crowd, and Coach Graves gave his heartfelt thanks to the team, band, cheerleaders and fans. The Ducks will return to Matt Knight for the Big Dance after the PAC-12 Tournament. Oregon will take on the winner of the washington-Utah matchup this Friday at 2 PM.
What a send-off for an iconic group in their final regular-season game.
