Sabrina Ionescu may have played her final game as a Duck, but that doesn’t mean she’s done breaking records! The Triple-Double Queen added to her legendary career by winning her fifth national player of the year trophy.
She’s the all-time leader in triple-doubles with 26, as well as the only player with 2,000 points, 1,000 assists and 1,000 rebounds. She’ll have a chance to collect every national player of the year award this Monday when the Wooden Award is announced; Ionescu has already won the the Wade Trophy and has been named national player of the year by USBWA, ESPN.com and the Associated Press. This is Ionescu’s first Naismith Trophy and the first for the PAC-12 since Kelsey Plum in 2017.
Hopefully this helps Ionescu cope with the tragic cancellation of the 2019-20 season, in which Oregon had an excellent shot at competing for a national championship having swept the PAC-12 tournament and compiled a 31-2, 17-1 record before Covid-19.
Let’s watch some Ionescu highlights from the 2019 NCAA Tournament to celebrate!
