Sam Poutasi
Left Guard - 6’4”, 295 lb. - Las Vegas, Nevada - Junior
For the first time in his collegiate career offensive lineman Sam Poutasi will have a legitimate chance to compete for the starting left guard position. 2020 will be a new beginning for Poutasi who was one of three players in a suit against former Oregon Ducks head coach Willie Taggart.
2019
Poutasi played in three games, but the big story of 2019 for him was a law suit the lineman filed against Taggart, the Oregon Ducks and the NCAA. The $5 million suit dates back to offseason workouts that led to Poutasi being hospitalized after suffering rhabdomyolysis. He was the second player of three to sue Taggart for physical and emotional pain, diminishment of avocational abilities, in the past, present, and future, and loss of enjoyment of life.
2018
Saw a season-high 10 snaps against Oregon State in the final game of the regular season. Poutasi played in five games and totaled 20 snaps as a sophomore.
2017
As a redshirt freshman the interior lineman played a grand total of six snaps against Oregon State in Week 12.
2016
Redshirted as a freshman.
Recruitment
Despite missing a large part of his senior season to a leg injury suffered in the spring of 2015, Poutasi was still the No. 6 overall recruit in the state of Nevada. Rivals rated him as a three-star prospect and the No. 83 offensive guard in the 2016 class. Poutasi chose Oregon over several other DI offers from programs like Nevada, Washington State, Hawaii and San Diego State.
