Oregon Football’s class of 2022 just added 300-plus pounds to the roster with the commitment of 3-star defensive lineman Sir Mells out of Henderson, Nevada.
According to the 247 composite, the 6-foot-4, 310-pound lineman is the 12th best prospect out of Nevada and the 111th best at his position. His entire junior season at Liberty High School was cancelled due to the pandemic, so it’s very likely that he would’ve risen in the ranks given the opportunity to play.
Mells also received offers from Michigan, Maryland, and Fresno State, as well as PAC-12 foes Arizona, USC, Oregon State and washington. In fact, he was committed to washington days before receiving his offer from the Ducks, and cancelled trips to Maryland and Michigan with the announcement of his decision.
The NCAA’s recruiting dead period, which started March of 2020 in response to COVID-19, was lifted on the first of this month. And since then Coach Cristobal and company have jumped right back into the thick of it by lining up multiple official visits for this weekend and for the foreseeable future.
Mells is the ninth commit of Oregon’s 2022 class, which currently sits at No. 21 nationally and leads all other PAC-12 teams.
