We've reached the championship. Now make your case and cast your vote.

It was a surprising week to say the least in the Final Four of Oregon's Greatest Game Bracket Challenge. It looked like the 2015 Rose Bowl was going to upset what many thought was the favorite to win the whole thing, The Pick. But like a quarterback trying to scramble and inexplicably fumbling, or a team driving for the go ahead touchdown and throwing an interception on the sideline, The Pick took the poll to the house.

In the other match up, the Chrome Domes were just too bright and easily took out Fright Night.

So here we have it, as voted on by you the fans of this team. Which game should be considered the Greatest Game in Oregon's history. Some are probably going to vote what they know or saw, some may even embellish whether or not they saw it live. Some are going to vote their hearts, while other may be more analytical about the games themselves. Either way, this contest will be decided, and you the fans who have given to the program, cheered till you're hoarse, read, wrote, and consumed these games are going to be the ones to decide it.

Voting ends on Thursday, March 23rd at 4:23pm University of Oregon time, so make your case in the comments, share this on your social media sites to rally as many votes you can, and make sure to read each game's case for why it should be voted Oregon's Greatest Game below.

Go Ducks!

(1) Wisconsin - Rose Bowl January 2, 2012 [Oregon 45 - Wisconsin 38]

Why It Should Win - I'm going to lay out my bias right up front, this is the greatest game I've ever watched. If you want to talk about the game play itself, it's hard to ignore that no team in the game ever had more than a touchdown lead. This was a back and forth battle of two really good teams playing really good football Russell Wilson was 19-of-25 for 296 yards. Darron Thomas was 17-of-23 for 268 yards. Oregon rushed for 345 yards on 40 carries. Oregon's defense did what they did best and shut down Wisconsin's rushing game, while Wisconsin's defense turned a strip sack into a TD. There were amazing catches, electrifying runs, and game changing turnovers. This game would go down to the final two seconds, and college football changed their rules about spiking to stop the clock because of this game.

Or we can talk about its historic significance. 95 years without a Rose Bowl win. Two attempts in the last 17 years with both coming up short to really good teams from the Big Ten. Facing another really good team from the Big Ten. Seeing guys like LaMichael James, Darron Thomas, or Kiko Alonso, who had faced adversity in their college careers hand Oregon something many thought would allude them their entire life.

Or the atmosphere and environment surrounding the game. The Rose Festival, the stealth bomber fly-over, the chrome helmets reflecting off the southern California sky. It was all memorable, beautiful, and impossible to forget.

This game had everything and that's why it should be considered the greatest game in Oregon history.

(1) UW 1994 - The Pick [Oregon 31 - Washington 20]

Why It Should Win - Iconic. If you're going to sum this game up in one word, that word is iconic. There have been some that have tried, but there is no possible way of imagining the Oregon Ducks football program without this game.

It changed everything.

Before this game, Washington had won 17 of the previous 21 match ups. After this game, Oregon won 17 of the next 21 match ups. Oregon went to 4 Rose Bowls, 2 National Championship games, and won 7 conference titles. Washington went to 1 Rose Bowl, made it to a playoff game, and won 3 conference championships.

Oregon saw an influx in national attention, booster support, fan attendance, and the trajectory of the program followed suit. The Ducks used all of that to expand Autzen Stadium, build state of the art education, practice, and workout facilities for its athletes. They focused that national attention on recruiting and eventually brought in their first Heisman trophy winner. They built a reputation for fun, fast, and innovative football that turned eyeballs and opened up wallets to grow the program into a national power.

Many joke about Oregon football not existing before 1994, if you compare the 23 years since to the 100 that came before, it didn't. There have been 1,175 games in Oregon's history, but there is only one game, and one play that Oregon replays on that massive scoreboard, bought with everything the program created after it, before each home game. That's why it should be considered the greatest game in Oregon history.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

There you have it. The arguments are laid out for why each game should be considered Oregon's greatest game. So vote below for the one you think should win, and leave a comment about why.

Florida State Rose Bowl 2015 vs The Pick

(1) Florida State - Rose Bowl 2015 [Oregon 59 - Florida State 20]

Why It Should Win - In retrospect, it's pretty fitting this game was the pinnacle of the Duck's ascent on the college football landscape. The first ever playoff game in the Rose Bowl; a place that had eluded a Duck victory for almost a century until about 3 years earlier. Playing an undefeated defending National Championship power from the state of Florida. Everyone was expecting this to be the slug-fest of the playoffs, and it was until the third quarter and a rash of Seminole turnovers finally led to this.

Sometimes when you're experiencing greatness you just know it. With 12:28 remaining in the game and Oregon had just scored its fourth straight touchdown after FSU had committed its fourth straight turnover, you just knew you had seen it. In hind sight, that greatness was amplified because of #8 on the Oregon sideline, but that didn't take anything away from what everyone on the team had contributed on that day. Tyner rushing for 124 yards on 13 carries. Carrington hauling in 7 catches for 165 yards (23.6 yds/catch... wow) and two touchdowns. The defense creating 5 turnovers and consistently giving Oregon's offense the ball with short fields to work with.

Greatness, all of them.

So when you're ever watching games and think to yourself, what would this team look like if everyone played great on the same day, you just have to think back to this game, and that's why it should be considered the greatest game in Oregon history.

Fright Night vs Wisconsin Rose Bowl

(2) USC 2009 - Fright Night [Oregon 47 - USC 20]

Why It Should Win - When evaluating what is the greatest game of all time there are categories you build in your head to fit them into. Asking "what's your favorite Duck game of all time" will immediately illicit different categories in different people. Some people will immediately think of the games they attended; others will think about historical significance. Some people may think about the setting or circumstances surrounding the game, while still others will think about the opponent and what beating them meant.

It's hard to put Fright Night in any one of those categories alone. It was a sellout home game for the Ducks on national television not too long ago, so many still remember watching it, but it was just another conference game on Halloween so remembering where you were on that night isn't anything special. While playing USC is great, we've had bigger and more memorable wins against them, so I doubt anyone would rank beating them as their number one opponent, and Autzen is great, but it's not the Rose Bowl, or Jerry World, or even a BCS setting with all the pomp and circumstances.

So what made this game so special? Why should Fright Night be considered the greatest game of all time?

I think it's the trajectories of the programs. USC was five years removed from one of the greatest college football seasons of all time, and Oregon was just picking up steam. Prior to the game no one knew that USC wouldn't be the same for the next eight years, and Oregon was just getting started on their historic run. After the game it was clear things in the conference were different. One game signaled everything had changed. In life we call these paradigm shifts, in college football we call them a changing of the guard.

The setting, the opponent, the circumstances were all good but they weren't great. Changing the underlying assumption about who ruled college football on the west coast is great, and Oregon did just that on a Halloween night in 2009 and that's why it should be considered the greatest game in Oregon history.

(1) Wisconsin - Rose Bowl January 2, 2012 [Oregon 45 - Wisconsin 38]

Here is how I ripped off the rings of our Duck advent calendar this year as we headed toward the first College Football Playoff Championship

Game 1, South Dakota State - Huh, who knew Byron Marshall could play wide receiver?

Game 2.1, Michigan State (halftime) - I knew Helfrich was over his head. Back to the days of celebrating Holiday Bowl victories

Game 2.2, Michigan State (end) - Wow, that's some halftime adjustment by the offense, but I'm still not sold on the D

Game 3, Wyoming - Why the fuck did Helf promote Pellum? Good god our D is bad, I mean that was Wyoming

Game 4, WSU - No way we go through this season unscathed with that O-line and this defense

Game 5, Arizona - Told you.

Game 6, Ucla - Nice win, but the defense is still struggling when it shouldn't

Game 7, Washington - Difference between you and me is I make this look good

Game 8, Cal - I'm going to drink a pint of whiskey cause our D is so bad and we're going to give up threeve jillion points to Stanford's anemic offense

Game 9, Stanford - Huh, maybe Pellum knew what he was talking about this off season

Game 10, Utah - Did we just make a really good defense look stupid?

Game 11, Colorado - ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Game 12, Oregon State - Mariota is just something special

Game 13, Arizona - Maybe our D is pretty good?

Game 14, Florida State - THAT is what Oregon looks like hitting on all cylinders

.

.

.

Game 15, Ohio State - I'm at peace. Here we come Ohio State and I trust Helf, this staff, and Mariota to put the best product on the field they can.

Go Ducks

As if this case wasn't difficult enough. Now we have learned that the University found out about the rape accusations on March 9th when the victim's father contacted the school. Oregon played in the Pac 12 tournament on March 12th and 13th and in the NCAA Tourney on March 20th and 22nd with two players they knew were under investigation for rape.

The University was asked by the EPD to not take "investigative or administrative" action as it might jeopardize the integrity of their criminal investigation.

This raise a number of serious questions for Dana Altman and the University of Oregon. First, what is their responsibility under Title IX to protect and investigate sexual assault claims? Did Altman do the right thing in playing Artis and Dotson in the Pac 12 and NCAA Tournament, if he knew about the accusations? What is Altman's responsibility now, considering neither Artis, Dotson, nor Austin have been found guilty in any court of law with regard to their status as players on the team?

This story is only beginning, and I feel unfortunately it is not going to end well or soon.

Many times have I referred to this blog as a neighborhood Duck bar. There are definitely the regulars that come here daily, some that talk too much, and some that make an ass of themselves and need management to make them leave. There are also the awesome people that work here, that keep the lights on, serve up the morsels of Duck information for us to consume and keep us coming back.

I still remember the first time I stumbled into this place.

Sure, maybe I had already had a few too many after a pretty bad night, and I was definitely looking for someone to help me drown my sorrows, or look for some answers, or even provide a shoulder to cry on. I got all of that over the last 4 years and then some.

When Jared asked me to be an Author and frequent contributor to the site, I have to admit I was a little nervous. Needless to say, I'm not a writer by profession (nothing could be further from the truth). But I did enjoy doing it as a hobby. It's a release, a chance to shout my opinions to a great many of like and unlike minded individuals and start a conversation. If I ever had one goal with anything I ever wrote, it was that I wanted to start a conversation. I enjoy the comment section of ATQ as much if not more than I enjoy the articles. It's something that makes this place unique in the world of shouting media. The authors here have to be willing to defend and discuss their opinions, and it's not good enough that you just read it.

In the end, however, I took the chance of turning a hobby into something a little more formal and I couldn't be happier that I did.

I've gotten more out of this experience than I ever could have given. I got to share the Ducks playing in the National Championship with my friends at this bar. We watched them win a Rose Bowl for the first time in 95 years together. We bitched and moaned about what the basketball team had become, and then celebrated together as it made it to the Sweet Sixteen. I also got to sit court side for the Pac 12 Tourney in Vegas as they started that magical run. I've been linked on ESPN, been called out by local radio hosts, started blog fights, ended other blog fights, and probably the thing I'm most proud of, helped rally this ragtag group of Duck misfits into supporting a worthy cause that helps individuals fighting Osteogenesis Imperfecta.

There are many things I would have done different, and some I wouldn't change for the world. Most of all, I'm happy I took the risk cause it allowed me to meet a tremendous number of awesome Duck and non-Duck fans.

So as I exit this bar and hang up my Rainier stained apron for the last time, I'd like to say thank you to all of you that made this so special for me. Thanks for the conversations. Thanks for the jokes. Thanks for supporting each other through good times and bad. Finally, thanks for putting up with this Putz, I'm the luckiest son-of-a-bitch on Earth.

Go Ducks!

Northwestern football players won a landmark case this week where they were given the right by the National Labor Relations Board to form as a union. Basically, the NLRB recognized a group of student-athletes as employees of the institution, Northwestern University.

Now, you're going to hear many misleading facts regarding this situation in the coming weeks and months. It's going to be framed as pay-for-play, or you're going to hear about how players are already paid anyway, how they're just being greedy, how it effects Title IX, or my favorite, how young adults shouldn't be allowed to make millions anyway... as if that ever stopped anyone from making American Idol.

For me, this case comes down to two aspects of how NCAA athletes are treated:

1. How do you account for benefits athletes receive today, and;

2. How does this effect the O'Bannon case and any other cases athletes might bring in the future

Let's take question number one first. It's no secret that college athletes already lead a pretty rich college life. They get special facilities, clothing, tutors, academic intermediaries, health and fitness advisers, and people to look over every aspect of their daily college life that most college students never get. It allows schools the ability to bring in kids that typically wouldn't get a college education and pass them through to a level they couldn't attain without their athletic prowess. Does someone really want to attempt to put a dollar figure on what that all amounts to? I don't.

Unfortunately, most college students have to figure out 90% of that life on their own. They have to worry about how to make it to the admissions office on time to make sure their loan checks are signed over to the University correctly. Most students don't get special tutors helping them in subjects they're struggling with to get a passing grade. Most students have to learn how to balance becoming a life professional, while being given academic rigor, without the aid of personal and scholastic assistance.

No one is shedding a tear for what most scholar-athletes are given the day they walk on campus. But what happens to the scholar-athlete when those thing suddenly get thrust into the competitive world of free market economics?

A lot of what athletes receive today is paid for by donor, sponsor, and media related deals. What happens when those deals are put into flux because of collective bargaining relations? One of the deals the NU players asked for was the ability to "directly benefit from commercial opportunities" (#8). What happens when that conflicts with the member institution's deal?

Let me take an example to illustrate my point.

Oregon is an incredibly Nike-centric school. Would Oregon be willing to pass on an athlete because Adidas signed a deal with him before he entered college? Would Johnny Manziel head to Texas A&M, an Adidas school, if Nike had gotten to him in high school? Would Oregon want Mariota if he was sponsored by Under Armor?

What happens to Oregon's Nike deal if Mark Helfrich brings in a kid that isn't sponsored by Nike? Do I need to remind you of what happened when the University sided with the World Trade Organization regarding Nike's treatment of international workers? And none of them are cult heroes that possibly led the Ducks to a National Championship.

There are many facets to the deals already set up between school and sponsor/donor/media group that would have to change when collective bargaining and free market choice gets thrust into the equation.

Now I'm not here to tell you this is right or wrong. Personally, I think NCAA athletes have been getting the short end of the stick for way too long. What I'm asking is, are fans willing to accept the collateral damage that occurs when a labor force rises up and attempts to tell its overlords they're not willing to take it any longer? It's happened in the past and I will say the outcome has pretty much always been great, but there are definitely sacrifices the participants and the bystanders have to make to finally get there.

As for question number two, I hope the athletes didn't shoot their wad too early.

The O'Bannon case looks to be a coming landslide victory for anyone, past and present, that has been taken advantage of by the NCAA cartel. There have been many cases brought against the NCAA in the past that have tailed off or disappeared because of lack of funding, plaintiveness of case, or attrition through time.

I hope the unionization of student-athletes doesn't cause the NCAA to act and settle in a way that could somehow undermine that effort. O'Bannon's case needs to be heard and seen through to completion. That is what will truly mark the day that the Cartel is faced with compensating those it has disenfranchised for too long.

We're standing on the precipice of the future of college athletics. In the long run that is a good thing, I'm sure of it. Unfortunately we have to deal with the sloppiness of how long term equilibrium deals with short term chaos. The consequences of the O'Bannon case, the reconfiguring of sponsor and media deals with regard to college athletes all hang in the balance now.

How is it going to turn out?
