Oregon defeats UCLA with the Bair-Down Strategy

+

It is time to pay tribute to the most important members of the team, and look at some of the fun and interesting plays of the game against UCLA. Thanks for all the comments last week as I clearly hit a nerve on both sides with fans, but this week we get back to digging into our beloved Ducks.

Reassessing Being an Oregon Fan

+

This article has generated a TON of discussion on most of the boards, and I have not had an article have such divergent responses before. Enjoy.

Helfrich - The Quiet Genius

+

Great feature on Helfrich, his upbringing and how he fits into the modern culture of Oregon football.

Oregon's Uniforms for this Thursday

+

The first slate of games of October begin this week, meaning that teams all across the land will be decked out in pink attire for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Oregon Equipment Staff has revealed what the Ducks will be wearing on Thursday against Arizona.

How Royce Freeman Saved Marcus Mariota: Pass Protection!

+

It’s fun to learn football from a real example and hear of Mariota referring to how Royce "saved" him in a recent interview after I wrote this up. Read over there, and discuss here as I would be interested in the feedback of other coaches/fans concerning pass protection.

One way the Oregon Spread Offense confuses Defenses

+

Everyone knows about the usual aspects of the Oregon offense that creates confusion for opposing defenses, but today we look at another component that adds to the confusion and helped Oregon win a game on Saturday. Read there and comment here and I’m wondering what other coaches call the "Load-Right?"

Byron Marshall loves Oregon’s new Slot-Sweep Read

+

You gotta love the new ways that Helfrich/Frost are attacking the defenses, and with Marshall being such a skilled pass receiver—this new variation puts that much more pressure on the defenses. Read over there and comment here as usual…but I am curious; this wrinkle is the first time I recall seeing it. Is this new or has it been in the playbook and not used in a long time? You remember when?

Ducks get Physical with Power Play vs. Spartans

+

We had success with the Power Play against Michigan State? I never would have predicted that, and I would not have anticipated a new variation of the Power Play for Oregon! It was great to see an ancillary player making a huge impact on the play, which is not something I’ve noticed or reported before. Great fun to see the little things turn into touchdowns! As always…read over there and let me know your thoughts here. Last year the Power Play was often getting stuffed, so why is it better this year?

If the B1G is Westeros, does that make the PAC12 Essos?

+

Then I assume that means the Ducks are the Dothraki.

Royce Freeman embraces Oregon’s Straddled Triple Option

+

It was great fun to see this play being used again after primarily sitting on the shelf the last two years. It makes sense that it be utilized with three superb RBs, and it is thrilling to see Freeman fit into the play so easily in his first start. We have not covered this play since the site began over three years ago!
