Oregon's first Heisman Trophy winner, Marcus Mariota, has filed paperwork to enter the 2015 NFL draft, according to Rob Moseley of GoDucks.com.
This comes as no surprise. Marcus has accomplished nearly everything that he could while at Oregon. The first three-time first team All-Pac 10/12 QB, Marcus led Oregon to a string of unprecedented success, capped by an incredible senior season where he won the Heisman Trophy and led Oregon to a Pac-12 and Rose Bowl Championships.
Marcus' stat line was incredible while at Oregon. In the National Championship game, he became the first Pac-12 player to account for over 5,000 yards of offense in a single season. He threw for 105 touchdowns in his career, and only 14 interceptions. He ran in another another 29 touchdowns. While those numbers speak for themselves, his consistency was also something to behold, with even his "off" games being significantly better than most QBs.
He leaves Oregon as the best player to ever put on green and yellow (and white, silver, and black).
From Moseley's article, here is Marcus' statement
"My four years at the University of Oregon have been an awesome experience. I cannot thank Coach Kelly, Coach Helfrich, Coach Frost, the rest of the Oregon coaches and the support staff enough for molding me as a person, player and student-athlete.
"The support I received from the University, the city of Eugene and Duck fans has been tremendous. I will always remember the great times and support I received. Once a Duck always a Duck.
"I will miss being with my teammates. Being a part of this team was something special that I will always treasure."
Mahalo Marcus. We'll miss you, and look forward to watching you at the next level.
